Choosing the right lawyer to guide you through your divorce is one of the most important divorce-related decisions you’ll make. Here are some questions that may help you determine which lawyer is right for your case:
- What would your strategy be for my case?
- What is your style (cooperative, aggressive, etc.)?
- What is your hourly rate and experience level?
- Is what I want reasonable under the law (and can you articulate to me why or why not)?
- What is your connection with the community, including knowledge of experts, judges, other family law attorneys (and does that provide any insight into my case/strategy)?
- Do you work independently or with a team of support and what does that looks like (other attorneys, experts, support staff, etc.)?
- Have you litigated cases with facts similar to mine before? What was the outcome?
- How often do you appear in the Court where my case is pending?
- Have you worked with opposing counsel before? What is your experience with them?
- Approximately how long will my case take beginning to end and approximately how much will it cost?
