Ryan Shellady is an associate attorney based in our Boulder office. Ryan graduated with high distinction from the University of Iowa in 2016, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Ethics & Public Policy. Ryan then attended the University of Iowa College of Law, graduating in 2019 with distinction. During his time in law school, Ryan participated on the National Moot Court team, and was published in Volume 104 of the Iowa Law Review. Ryan received the top grade in every one of his writing courses in law school. Ryan was also awarded the prestigious Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Fellowship from the The University of Michigan Law School’s Child Advocacy Law Clinic.
Prior to joining Burnham Law, Ryan spent a summer working in Chicago for the Family Defense Center, a non-profit that sought to help parents and children wrongfully separated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. In 2018, Ryan clerked for Brown, Winick, Graves, Gross, and Baskerville, one of Iowa’s largest law firms, before ultimately accepting a position as an associate attorney in 2019. There, Ryan handled a wide array of civil, business, and family law litigation.
Ryan deeply appreciates the difficult road his clients face as they traverse their family law matters. Having been a child of separated parents himself, Ryan has a unique personal understanding of the internal challenges and dynamics many families face. Combining his lived experience, with his excellent writing and oral skills, Ryan is a passionate and zealous advocate both on paper and in the courtroom.
When he isn’t at work, you may find Ryan walking or hiking with his Australian Shepherd, Sven, catching up on Iowa Hawkeye football or wrestling, playing board games with his friends, or taking in the atmosphere at a local tea or coffee shop.
