Jared West is an associate attorney with the civil litigation division located in Boulder.
Jared received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law. In law school, Jared developed his skills and passion for litigation while competing in moot court and representing felony clients with the Law Offices of the Public Defender in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He continued to gain substantial courtroom experience in his Criminal Clinic class while serving as a student attorney for the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jared earned the CALI: Excellence for the Future Award for his performance in Criminal Clinic and received a Certificate of Concentrated Studies in Litigation from the College of Law.
Jared is also well-versed on complex commercial transactions, real estate law, and intellectual property. While working for an international Fortune 500 construction and engineering firm, he analyzed many high-dollar construction contracts involving public and private entities. Similarly, by clerking for a boutique law firm in Denver prior to joining Burnham Law, Jared was exposed to a wide range of civil litigation, real estate, and business law issues. Moreover, with a former career in music and hospitality—and having earned a second Certificate of Concentrated Studies in Intellectual Property—Jared continues to expand his knowledge of copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets, as well as noncompete and nondisclosure agreements. Lastly, while in law school, he developed a thorough understanding of Colorado’s ever-changing landscape of cannabis and hemp law. His law review article, Nebraska Nonsense: Trojan Horse or Cash Crop, about the Nebraska Hemp Farming Act, is published in Volume 99:2 of the Nebraska Law Review.
Jared’s unwavering work ethic is demonstrated by his participation in many extra-curricular activities and by his receiving numerous academic awards. Jared was a senior member of both Law Review and Moot Court Board. For moot court, he served as the Fall 2019 Henry R. Grether Moot Court Competition Chair and was awarded Best Brief for the Spring 2019 Thomas S. Allen Moot Court Competition. Additionally, Jared continued his academic performance while serving on five executive boards including the Student Bar Association and the Sports, Entertainment, and Business Law Association.
Given his professional background, Jared understands that practicing law is all about the client and believes in setting honest, realistic expectations while delivering attentive and zealous legal services. Furthermore, Jared is committed to using his law degree to help people and to be a leader in his community, having received honors from the College of Law for both his commitment to pro bono service and leadership.
Jared lives in Boulder with his wife, dog, and two cats. He enjoys running and spending time with his family and friends.
