James Townsend is the Chief Operations Officer and Partner with Colorado’s Burnham Law, a Renowned Litigator, Skilled Negotiator, Proven Leader, Expert Speaker, and Forward-Thinking Administrator with a passion for family law and innovative growth and management tactics.

As a seasoned trial attorney with over a decade of experience in the Colorado court system, James has represented clients in multimillion-dollar litigation cases, advised multinational corporations on personnel strategies, and developed and implemented maneuvers that took a small boutique practice to one of the state’s top 25 largest firms.

 

INNOVATIVE THOUGHT LEADER

James’s success in building and expanding legal firms prompted Burnham Law to create the role of Strategic Growth Director. A former attorney with the Colorado State Office of the Public Defender, James has designed and implemented innovative growth strategies to optimize the firm’s rapid expansion. James applies his talent and expertise to aid in responsible, strategic growth, and bring higher-level thinking and action to legal teams, clients, and the community.

 

HONORED LEGAL PRACTICE

James has been honored as the recipient of the Douglas and Elbert County Bar Association’s Professional of the Year award. James received his undergraduate degree in Global Economics from Brigham Young University and his J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law. He is a respected member of the Colorado Bar Association and the El Paso County Bar Association and has served on the Town Council of Castle Rock.

 

COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP

A distinguished professional who cares deeply about his clients, his business, and expanding legal practice in an intelligent way, James is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. He continually dedicates himself to serving Colorado’s Latino and Hispanic communities. James served as a volunteer English instructor in Monterrey, Mexico, founded the Spanish Speaking Law Students—a student organization dedicated to preparing young attorneys to serve Spanish-speaking clients, and served in the University of Idaho’s Immigration Clinic, providing free legal services to members of the community.

James is based in Colorado Springs, where he enjoys skateboarding, playing guitar, and spending time with his wife and children.
