According to authorities, the adult male pedestrian stepped into traffic and was subsequently struck by the officer’s vehicle. Tragically, the pedestrian did not survive the impact.
In response to the incident, the 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team has taken charge of the investigation into the collision. Their findings will be presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
As of now, the identity of the deceased pedestrian has not been disclosed, pending notification of the family.
The involved police officer was not harmed in the collision. Following standard protocol for the department, the officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
