Tragic Accident Claims Life of 18-Year-Old Cotopaxi Teen on U.S. 50

[FREMONT COUNTY, COLORADO] – An 18-year-old teenager from Cotopaxi, Colorado lost his life in a devastating car crash involving two vehicles on June 21, 2023, near mile marker 232 on U.S. 50, between Cañon City and Salida.

 

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) was notified about the incident at approximately 5:21 p.m., according to Trooper Gabriel Moltrer. The collision occurred between a Chevy Silverado and a Ford F-150.

 

The Fremont County Coroner, Randy Keller, identified the driver of the Chevy as Shane Semer, 18, from Howard, Colorado. Semer was pronounced deceased at the scene by Fremont County Chief Deputy Coroner, Laura Allen. 

 

The driver of the Ford F-150, a 50-year-old male from Coaldale, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility for treatment, as reported by Trooper Moltrer.

 

Shane Semer recently graduated from Cotopaxi High School in 2023. In the wake of this tragic event, the community has rallied together to provide support and counseling services for those affected. To aid in the grieving process, members of the community, the high school, and Solvista Health have organized free grief and loss support services at Cotopaxi Schools, located at 345 County Road 12 in Cotopaxi. These services will be available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 22, 2023.
