The tragic incident took place at approximately 5:01 p.m. in the 15500 block of U.S. 287 and involved a total of four vehicles, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Wright and Jacobson were both occupants of the same vehicle and were sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Another individual from a separate vehicle involved in the crash was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run, described as a red Dodge Ram, immediately fled the scene. Despite efforts by officials from multiple agencies, the suspect vehicle remains at large as of May 23, 2023.
Authorities have provided a description of the suspect vehicle, stating that it is believed to be a dark red 2009 or newer Dodge Ram 1500 with distinctive chrome bumpers and wheels. The pickup truck is expected to exhibit damage on its right side. Investigators have also released information about the driver, identifying him as a heavy-set white male, estimated to be between 50 and 60 years old, and sporting a white beard.
Law enforcement suspects excessive speed played a significant role in the crash and are considering the possibility of road rage or racing as contributing factors. They urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the Dodge Ram or the identity of its driver to contact the Colorado State Patrol dispatch at 303-239-4501.
