On January 31, 2023, motor vehicle accidents littered the Denver metro area. A multiple-vehicle crash caused severe traffic delays on Interstate 70 in Aurora, Colorado. The crash occurred on I-70 at East Smith Road, causing a temporary closure of westbound I-70.
Another accident partially closed I-70 (westbound) between Exit 90 (CO 13) and Exhibit 87 (Rifle).
A third accident temporarily closed I-24 (northbound) between Exit 187 (Happy Canyon Road) and Exit 188 (Castle Pines Parkway).
While the weather may have played a role in the accidents, Burnham Law reminds drivers that Colorado law requires them to adjust their speed and driving to accommodate the conditions. During these frigid mornings, please slow down and remember that not all ice is easily visible.
