Head-On Collision on Wyoming US 89 Results in Fatality and Serious Injuries

[STAR VALLEY, WYOMING] – Multiple emergency crews from the surrounding Narrows area responded to a serious two-vehicle accident on US 89. The incident took place at mile post 95 on Wednesday, July 5, at approximately 12:19 p.m. Initial reports indicated that the collision was a head-on crash. Air units were dispatched to the scene to provide immediate assistance.

According to Trooper Chad Ludwig of the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), the accident involved a northbound Kia Soul SUV and a southbound Ford Escape SUV. The Ford Escape veered out of its lane, colliding head-on with the Kia Soul on the driver’s side. The impact caused the Ford Escape to spin several times before coming to a stop in the southbound lane. Meanwhile, the Kia Soul veered off the highway, ending up in the grass on the northbound shoulder.

The driver of the Ford Escape has been identified as Sheryl Edwards, a 65-year-old resident of Auburn. Tragically, the driver of the Kia Soul, Tow Zhang, a 48-year-old resident of New Jersey, succumbed to his injuries. Zhang was accompanied by his wife and their ten-year-old son. Mrs. Zhang was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) by ground transport, while the young boy was airlifted to EIRMC for urgent medical attention.

Responding to the crash were members of the Thayne Fire Department, Star Valley EMS from Thayne and Afton, as well as personnel from the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
