Colorado’s Recovery Court is a program intended to help offenders combat substance abuse problems through treatment and supervision. Individuals who qualify for this program are typically first-time offenders who have an addiction that is the primary cause of their criminal behavior. Participants must actively engage in treatment, make regular court appearances, complete all urinalysis drug tests and are intensely supervised by probation and the recovery court team.
Who qualifies for the Recovery Court Program?
While specific criteria may vary by district, typically a defendant must meet the following:
- The defendant must recognize that he/she has a drug addiction
- The charges must be related to drug addiction
- The defendant must be eligible for probation or facing probation revocation
